CHALLENGE

Sleep Number’s website looked dated and wasn’t performing as well as they would like

The dated design and navigation made it difficult for users to find the needed information, resulting in a poor user experience. Additionally, the website was not optimized for mobile devices, which is a critical component of any successful eCommerce platform. Finally the checkout process needed to be streamlined and simplified to make it easier for customers to make a purchase.

Our design team of two was eager to address customer pain points and make Sleep Number a best-in-class eCommerce experience.

The team saw an opportunity to improve navigation, increase transparency, and elevate design to enable customers to understand what products are on offer, find and compare them and checkout more quickly with confidence. We set out first to understand what existing research and testing was in place to inform our hypothesis.

After synthesizing the findings from numerous research studies, we delved into Sleep Number’s eCommerce buyers report to better understand who is buying their products, and what considerations and factors lead to a purchase decision. Equipping ourselves with this data and running our own research into eCommerce best-practices and emerging trends we began to design.
